We have extensive experience in patent appeal proceedings, trials, and litigation, including a widely-cited Supreme Court case, 2001 (Gyo-Hi) 154. Utilizing our knowledge, expertise, and skills acquired through our abundant experience, we support our clients from filing to grant, and further beyond, in patent litigation and invalidation trials.

2.NIPB pursues “strong” patents through feedback of our knowledge and skills acquired in patent appeal proceedings, trials, and litigation, to preparation of prosecution documents up to grant.
We draft prosecution documents, taking into consideration of expected attacks and conceivable defenses thereto from a vast variety of points of view in possible appeal proceedings, trials, and litigation, to attain patents that can withstand vigorous disputes in patent litigation or invalidation trials.

We have been building cooperative relationship with skilled attorneys around the world to support overseas clients and firms acquiring intellectual property rights in Japan.
Many of our patent attorneys have broad knowledge and experience in IP matters, and many of our staffs are proficient at languages. Together, we provide courteous service to international clients.

Message from Managing Partner
Nagai International Patent Bureau was founded in Akasaka, Tokyo in 1978, which is about a half a century ago. Since our establishment, we consistently endeavor to provide high-quality intellectual property services to our clients.
Over a half a century since our establishment, we have been handling application prosecution for acquiring strong protections of our clients’ intellectual property rights, as well as attending various proceedings, such as oppositions, appeal proceedings, trials, and litigation related to intellectual properties, to devote ourselves to resolution of disputes.
Reflecting knowledge and skills accumulated through such variety of disputes to drafting specifications and other prosecution documents, we strive to achieve strong patents that can win a court case.
During the examination stage of an application, we believe it crucial for acquiring a strong patent to read thoroughly between the lines of Office Actions, review the specification and Office Actions from multiple points of view, construct a logic that is legally and technically persuasive, and describe it accurately in Arguments or Amendments. Through a series of such works done precisely, we endeavor to achieve a strong patent.
Since our establishment, we also have extensive experience in prosecuting other intellectual property applications, such as trademarks, in addition to patents. Making use of abundant knowledge and skills cultivated through such experience, we support our clients to obtain strong rights also of trademarks and others.
